Harian Metro is the first newspaper in the Malay language available on the iPad and the second in Malaysia using WoodWing´s solution to create and distribute its iPad editions

Zaandam, The Netherlands (April 4, 2011) – Harian Metro, the largest daily newspaper in Malaysia, is now publishing its Editors’ Choice for the iPad, created with WoodWing's Tablet Publishing Solution. The app first became available in the App Store on March 26. Founded in 1991 by New Straits Times Press, Harian Metro was the first daily tabloid in the Malay language. The print edition now attracts more than three million readers a day.

The daily iPad edition offers a selection of news and features about politics, business, social life, sports and entertainment, including exclusive interviews, which are accompanied by stunning images and videos.

“The Harian Metro iPad edition has been specifically developed and designed to take advantage of the many possibilities offered by the iPad,” said Datuk Mustapa Omar, Group Editor of Harian Metro. “This is the first time a Malay-language newspaper delivers its exclusive content, including lots of pictures, videos and graphics, via an iPad reader app. The Harian Metro app also provides our advertisers the opportunity to reach out to their respective target audiences, who are online-savvy and technologically driven.”

Serious Technology, one of WoodWing´s Gold Authorized Solution Partners in Asia, and TriStar Marketing delivered WoodWing´s Tablet Publishing Solution to New Straits Times Press for the creation of its iPad editions. “Harian Metro is using WoodWing´s Content Delivery Service, which uses 65,000 servers around the globe to quickly deliver the daily content to the reader app,” said John Fong, Chief Executive of Serious Group. “Serioustec and TriStar Marketing have worked hand-in-hand to deliver the project on-time and on-budget for the client."

WoodWing´s Tablet Publishing Solution highly accepted by newspapers in Asia
“In July of 2010, Kompas in Indonesia became the first newspaper that went live on the iPad using WoodWing´s Tablet Publishing Solution,“ said Remco Koster, Managing Director of WoodWing Asia Pacific. “Next came the South China Morning Post in China and The Star in Malaysia, two other major newspaper brands in Asia that appreciated our efficient tablet-publishing workflow. I’m sure we’ll see more newspapers join this list in the near future, as the iPad2 and other tablets are quickly gaining popularity. Publishers cannot afford to miss this media revolution.”

On a worldwide basis, daily newspapers such as Frankfurter Rundschau and Hamburger Abendblatt in Germany, and the Sunday Times in the UK are using WoodWing´s Tablet Publishing Solution to create and distribute their iPad editions. In Brazil, the free tablet-only newspaper Brazil24/7 has been available since-mid March and is already approaching the break-even point. In 2010, the app of Frankfurter Rundschau was awarded with the European Newspaper Award, while The Sunday Times was ranked the world's No. 1 magazine and newspaper brand on the iPad, according to iMonitor’s assessment of the best apps of 2010.

With well over 200 WoodWing apps on the market, publishers worldwide have produced 3,000 daily, weekly or monthly tablet issues.
